In a way, Carrie affording her lifestyle by only writing a weekly column is realistic bc I always wonder how A LOT of people afford their lifestyle without working that much
Emily, I've been getting your posts in my Substack home page for a while and I finally clicked this one. Loved how funny and snappy you two are in your takes and dialogue. Would loveee a Carrie style column from you guys ;)
i know this comment is coming soooo late lol but i once read that in the 90s writers in new york were getting paid up to 10.000 dollars a month ... just for 1 column ... so yeah
I was 16 when I first saw it. Now as a 30+, despite not being able to afford Manolos & Carrie’s apartment…I can say I’m completely covered by this show 😂
Awww this made me so nostalgic for being single and in the city (Toronto, not NY).
1. Going out on weeknights is THE BEST.
2. I feel like this is an appropriate place to share that one time my friend's situationship's birthday was coming and she asked what she should do that would mark the occasion without being girlfriend-y. I said three words: "whipped-cream bikini". Apparently it went over very well.
3. Yes to the city feeling like a small town. I miss that. Running into my brother and his friends while I'm out on a sketchy hangover-brunch date with some dude I met the night before. He turned out to be a sociopath who invented an identical twin brother and pretended it was his apartment that we were in and that he actually lived in LA. To, I dunno, discourage me from getting attached? (This is 1000% a true story! Then he promised to take me to a TIFF party that night but ghosted me instead.) Don't flatter yourself sir, I was really only in it for the skiing.
Omg I love this. I’m rewatching SATC rn and literally thought ‘if Carrie can support her lifestyle on a weekly column, surely I can do the same with my substack’ lol 😂
can we also talk about how unrealistic it is that she never got writer’s block???
this...
😂
I've suspected Carrie had a trust fund or life insurance money from dead parents tbh.
no fr
