I think mesh flats and mary janes look really dumb! The nostalgic / original ones make sense and are cute because they look like a summer / beachy shoe. These new ones are just silly. -- Love you, xoxo

THIS!! "...extremely aware that the business of fashion is built off of the feeling of being “in the know”, signaling to the world that you “get it”- the insidious part is how simultaneously aware of this as i am and how i am still unable to let this Fear Of Missing Out go." 10000%

I've always thought mesh flats were cool but I agree...it's really kind of gross to wear them in New York. A cab/Uber-taking girlie/Hamptons mom shoe

I felt an unnatural urge to buy those mesh ballet flats and then I had remind myself - almost pathologically - this is a trend item not a personal style item!! It was so hard 🥲

I was literally just thinking about whether it’s time to sell my Melina pants lolol thank you I feel so validated. Hurray for more closet space.

That tiger dress is perfection!!!

I didn’t buy mesh flats because I have sweaty feet and it’s better for everyone if I wear shoes that can be paired with socks 🫠

My own favourite “oh I’ve had this forever” piece is a thick, fuzzy wool/angora double-breasted coat in robin egg blue. I bought it on clearance in an old-lady section of a department store like ten years ago. Every winter I’m SO excited to wear it. Always makes me feel like a 90s club kid, or Margot Tenenbaum.

This is going to be a weirdly dramatic statement so bear with me lol, but your writing is like a cold glass of water: so refreshing and I devour it on a hot day 🥹 thank you for your words!

I think the secret to don't let shopping impulses win is to become comfortable in looking different from others 😊 There's nothing wrong with it and I personally prefer to see more diversity rather than a crowd of people dressed all the same. Fashion should be free and a reflection of personality.

I am opposed to mesh flats mainly because I hate TOES and I don’t want to see anyone’s!!! I resent needing a pedicure!!

This sent me down an absolutely ironic rabbit hole to find my own tiger dress. And I did. And I have zero regrets.

I feel like I’m lucky enough to not experience fashion fomo maybe because I have a hard time following trends so I’d only dress with what’s more comfortable and looks cute. And especially if you dress mostly with second hand clothing is harder to find these trendy things in a pile of stuff costing 1€/piece lol

The mesh flats are cute when done right, i haaaaate the ones that you are showing in that photo with the 3 colors. I like the mesh flat that's more of a structured netting with a thick strap, it gives the shoe structure and look more intentional. The thin mesh looks like a cloth or a garbage bag 😖

"we are not meant to participate in everything, even when we do like it. there will always be something next, the cooler thing will always be the ability to tell someone “i’ve had this forever!” when someone compliments you."

YESSSS THIS IS SO REAL. I've been trying to build up my wardrobe from scratch and I struggle so much with wanting to buy more things just to get out of the same uniform I've worn for years even though I know that changing everything I wear every 5 years isn't the answer. The fast trend cycle and FOMO def doesn't help me be decisive about what I want so I feel bad about not having a hard stance about what I wear. I think I'll keep a few more things now, love your writing to death <3 <3
