Is this an American thing to not like to hear music at the beach? In Mexico, we always have mariachis y bandas at the beach practically everyone will join in
this sounds WONDERFUL!!!!!!! i’ve been to a few beaches in mexico in my experience there is always music and it’s so beautiful and everyone enjoys it together, i wish we had more of that in the US!! a lot of the beaches here often times have people playing music over each other, doesn’t feel very communal 😔
Honestly I've always been pro music at the beach, but I've realised that I listen to music all the time 24/7 and am trying to just be content with taking in the sounds around me without needing some kind of stimulation all the time, teaching myself to listen to the soundtrack of real life♥︎
You are not being dramatic at all. In my country people compete with their cars, you know like in the races? Like in Fast and Furious, but at the beach. Speakers is for losers.
People park their cars in the first line of the beach to do that. Not only not caring at all about your ears but caring even less for turtle nesting season 😡😡😡
I honestly hate people that listens music in the beach out loud. I’m deeply traumatized. Maybe I am the one being dramatic but honestly, that thing should be f-ing illegal, for real.
hey miss ems, your essay at the end made me cry. thank you for being my non-roommate and for being my best friend and for continuing to inspire me through your writing <3 i love you !!!! and i hate hearing music on the beach
I shed a slight tear because I feel the exact same way. This summer was fleeting and I did so much but I have been so rigid. I think it’s because Emmy and Jett and optimism directly contrast each other and a few days ago I dwindled it down to my own conscious creating a war in my mind when in reality I just need to lighten up. Great essay
My stance on music on the beach has swayed towards yours. Typically I am a if people around me play music-so will I, or I’ll play it quietly but in all honesty why do we escape silence and natures Spotify. It’s nice to take in music while admiring and soaking up our surroundings but is it necessary and is it better than fully being present? Well that I don’t know but I know consideration for this is something I am definitely keeping in mind from now on
Five speakers going sounds like hell when one is already one too many. I’ve also found that alcohol at the beach coincides with many bad neighborly practices…
No music at the beach unless it's very, very, VERY low where I'd literally have to be sitting on your towel/chair to hear it. People should realize maybe others want to experience a different vibe than they do and respect that.
I feel the same way. I don’t want to hear anyone’s music at the beach, at the office, in a waiting room, or anywhere else! Same goes with videos!
Slowing down and noticing what’s around me in nature is so much more restorative for me than listening to a true crime podcast or something 🫠
!!!! yes
this exactly!!! “everyone deserves to enjoy the beach” rang so true for me, i feel this way so strongly

Ah, I definitely see how that would be overstimulating and a damper, hopefully we can bring that to the states one day!!

I cannot stand music at the beach. People are so disrespectful. They decide they want music and the rest of us have zero choice in the matter.
1000% agree. No music at the beach.
Also relate so hard to being both incredibly anxious and naturally optimistic. 🩵
Congrats on your apartment!
The irony of people blasting music (terrible or otherwise) while spending $$$ on white noise machines that play the sound of the ocean…!

I relate to being an anxious and optimistic person. I feel those sides of my myself at war all the time!
