tea!!! taking a casual photo of your gorgeous meal is literally NOTHING compared to a lot of the olympic-level documentation i sometimes have the misfortune of witnessing in public. i think there are polite and impolite ways to capture photos & videos in public and the problem is what separates the two behavioral poles is mostly just common sense/basic respect/human decency or lack thereof. we definitely do not need to be further normalizing excessive documentation period, even if it's technically more discreet or less socially disruptive on paper (which as you said still ends up being socially or at the very least psychologically disruptive). i appreciate this nuanced take <3

apparently you have to say “hey meta” for it to turn on and I actually think that might be enough to embarrass the masses into not using them. Like idk anyone using Alexa anymore and that shit is embarrassing too, imagine doing it in public!

i can just imagine someone whispering “hey meta” like slinking into their chair …

Only you could make embarrassment look chic

maybe the problem isn't documentation, it's our desire to erase every trace that we're documenting. we've become embarrassed by our own sentimentality

if whipping out your phone (or watching someone else momentarily whip out their phone) to take picture of food or sunset or concert or cute dog or selfie or each other takes you away from being in the moment that is a YOU PROBLEM!!! lovlovlov and equally scarescarescared of the world that u say where everyone lowkey wants to snap a memory and keep it in their backpocket but the same time is terrified of embarrassment and doing so which equally takes them away from Da Moment (TM) and it becomes a culture of cowardice and compliance which is the worst of both worlds cause you not only not enjoy it but also have no digital file to bring home. guys gals non-binary pals in christ, your $32 eggs benny and $200 concert ticket has the cost of pictures priced in - make your money and time and love worthwhile!! thank u for sharing emily always a prophet always a delight 🍰

loved this piece! do you feel like at this point your embarassment stems from genuine external phenomena or is it more like the world's conditioned you to react that way?

meta glasses are so circa surveillance state! we have forgotten the art of mystery, of privacy, of keeping thoughts to ourselves. we have forgotten consideration of others!!
