I've never been a leopard print person but I do appreciate it when I spot it out in the streets.

And I love what you have to say about trend cycles here. Trends can be useful for introducing you to new outfit components you wouldn't have considered before, but there's a bittersweet joy to something you already love becoming trendy - on one hand, you'll now be able to find much more of what you want; but on the other hand, everyone will think you're wearing it just to fit in, and it will inevitably receive scorn when the trend has run its course. Even if you don't follow trends and shop in accordance with your own style, trend cycles have an impact.

trend cycles are so bittersweet!!!! the duality is something i think we have a hard time grasping. it's either that trends should be rejected (despite our innate inner desire to fit into any type of in-group) or that we must follow trends or we do not understand culture (this most likely is inflicted for the sake of content). it is so hard! yet so fun all at the same time. thank you for reading!

I am wearing a thrifted no label leopard coat today and sitting in my leopard upholstered desk chair (also thrifted) that matches nothing else in my office. I've been thinking of reupholstering it but then again, maybe I won't.

I feel like leopard print hasn't been appreciably out of place in contemporary fashion since at least I'm going to say, 2016? 2017? or even in the mid-late 00s before that if you count the Kate Moss/indie girl types who loved a good rockstar-inspired look. I mean, there was that Realisationpar leopard silk slip skirt that was everywhere in 2019 (though now it's been five years...just short enough for the trend cycle to partially eject and recycle, but also short enough that people could easily be still hanging on to a 2019 purchase and could just use that again), and I remember seeing that quote about leopard being a neutral a LOT in the 2010s.

i am actually shocked i failed to mention the iconic (sorry for using that term) realisationpar leopard slip skirt. you bring up such a good point about the rapidity of leopard as a trend. it never really "goes out" but it is "in' more times than other. i think that constant ebb and flow is what causes the fatigue to me. also just the concept of "trend forecasters" on tik tok predicting leopard print as being "in" makes me want to scream. thank you for reading Lily! i really appreciate your perspective!!!!

A longtime fan of leopard print here. It's a total classic and a neutral! One of the most powerful and complicated fashion statements one can make.
