+.。☆゚:;。+゚ ☆* 10 things i want to wear this fall +.。☆゚:;。+゚ ☆*゚
i can’t remember when i first noticed the twinge in my stomach at the first sight of a crisp fall leaf in august, when passing landmarks of upstate new york on the way up to start a new college semester, in a lingering hug goodbye floating with ambiguous finality. that fear of giving up the comfortable for an unknown existence marked by these physical manifestations of change
i struggle with the duality that lives in an inherent optimistic confidence in the future coupled with anxiety spinning from how time moves parallelly incomprehensibly rapid and slow at the exact same time. in my little brain i know that change always offers up a sterling silver platter of unexpected joys. a night out with new people that leaves you gasping for air from laughing, a new opportunity at work that makes you feel exhaustingly proud of yourself, a new crush you met at an event you were debating attending in the first place. change is amazing!
i still feel that uncomfortable drop in my stomach every time i see that first crisp leaf on the street in september, but it feels beautifully sticky, like stepping on a piece of gum.. it at first you don’t notice the feeling or you pretend to not notice the inertia clinging to the bottom of your shoe, then you immediately work to remedy the matter in a humbling way and walk away feeling unburdened and lighter than you ever remembered. that sticky tension reminds me how beautifully complicated it is to be human.
i wrote this fresh from experiencing my last summer new jersey sunset, i was afraid i was going to miss it and peddled furiously to the bay; i arrived just in time, as i usually do. the slow descent if the giant orange sun mocking me as one last symbol of seasonal finality. a toddler in a giant pink dress which reminded of something i would wear at that age (and now quite frankly) waved and said “THANK YOU” to the sun. i laughed both in agreement and at the wisdom beyond her own comprehension. thank you summer !!!!!
in an act of embracing the change of seasons here 10 things i want to wear this fall.. some i already own, some i want to buy (most i can’t afford so am cathartically writing this in an effort to quell that urge)
mohair sweaters! i love knitwear and have been feeling a bit fatigued by my assortment of basic cotton blends, i think fuzzy mohair sweaters are the perfect way to add texture and also make traditionally classic silhouettes a bit less serious. i love this braindead sweater, marni also has a phenomenal assortment if you can stomach the price point
red cardigans - many know that red is my favorite color and it seems incomprehensible that i do not own a red cardigan (i also feel like cardigans are the sweater silhouette du jour thanks to miu miu, no?) i just bought this one from depop but if you search “red cable knit cardigan” into ebay you will also find a plethora of gems
red tights … i know these are a trend but i am weak and i think they are so fun. sue me!
patent leather clogs - i saw these as i was cosplaying a suburban housewife shopping at my hometown anthropologie at 1pm on a friday and havne’t stopped thinking about them/ IMAGINE THESE WITH RED SOCKS! ! ! ! !
a new work bag - i desperately need a new leather bag to wear to work, i fear my faithful ll bean tote needs a rest for the fall/winter (as we all do)- i love the reformation large vittoria bag or a distressed givenchy/balenciaga bag
a velvet track suit - i feel the strongest urge to buy a velour tracksuit to run errands in this fall. if i buy this i feel like i will become someone who only buys seasonally appropriate produce from farmers markets
leopard penny loafers - i want these stupid miu miu leopard loafers SOOOO badly which are extremely out of budget- i find a good animal print hard to find, a lot of them tend to look a bit cheesy to me
tailored lady jackets - i’ve always loved a lady jacket, i think because my grandmother and i shared a love for chanel tweed jackets.. we would always stop and linger at the chanel section of neiman marcus in the mall and pretend that we were in the market to buy one (we weren’t) there are a TON of vintage saint laurent/gucci/dior ones online at decent prices- i have my eye on this navy saint laurent jacket from TRR .. it has star buttons!!!!!!
suede trench - i am on the hunt for a good suede trench, maybe in a fun color? this ralph lauren one is pretty amazing
tekla bedding - i feel the crushing weight of my late twenties forcing me to start to consider expensive bedding… i love this black and white striped bedding from tekla.. if anyone has bedding from them can you let me know if it’s worth it or if i am just being silly and irresponsible
ENJOY THE END OF SUMMER.. FALL IS GOING TO BE AMAZING XOXOXOXO
