i <3 errand dressing

i love getting dressed. i love getting dressed to go to work knowing i have an important meeting that day which makes me feel like jenna rink from 13 going on 30. i love getting dressed to go out on the weekend, playlist du jour playing on my speakers as i ask myself the age-old question “is this too short?” and ultimately decide “probably!” and bounce out the door. i love getting dressed for dinner with a girlfriend i haven’t seen in a while, pulling out that one special piece which has been sitting dormant in my closet, it’s resentment seething into my tiny bedroom. i love getting dressed for a first date and wearing something that makes me feel most like myself at that current moment.

but what i love getting dressed for the most is running errands. i think there’s something particularly satisfying about sprinkling in practicality and comfort into a outfit that still feels fun enough to make me excited to choose which bananas have reached perfect ripeness. my main goal for 2023 was to “have more fun" and part of that has been challenging myself to wear over-the-top outfits to do absolutely nothing but run errands and read in the park. (this is another reason why i love new york: no one will question why you are in wholefoods in a pleated mini skirt, ballet flats, sequin shoulder bag and giant bow at 4:54 on a sunday).

i have had a strong fixation with it-girl errand running outfits since my impressionable middle-school tumblr era which may contribute to my affinity for dressing up the mundane. i have had a few key looks i always go back for for inspiration whenever i want to get dressed and can’t muster up the brain power

here are 10 of my all time favorite errand looks <3 <3 <3 <3

1. there will be only 2 carrie looks referenced (even though i could have made this entire list dedicated to her as she was seemingly always running errands in absurd outfits) i think about this peasant blouse and athletic short combo often- a part of the charm for me is knowing the destination for this outfit was to take aidan’s dog for a walk

   

2. another one of my favorite looks was this plaid mini skirt/tank top/black scrunchie/pearl necklace combo- something about it feels extremely comfortable and easy while still digestibly sartorial

   

3. i bow at the alter of zoe kravitz and stand by the fact that she is the ultimate cool girly girl while still keeping every outfit feel lived-in

   

   4. & most of all, i love her commitment to an unexpected shoe

   

5. i have spent longer than i will ever admit looking at kate moss airport outfits from the 90s- and this one in particular has kept me going back to it. i’m still searching for the perfect leopard shoulder bag because of it

   

6. does anyone else remember that time period in 2012 when miley cyrus was constantly out and about going to coffee bean and ALWAYS had her hair in a extremely tight top knot? this phenomenon led me to order a sock bun mechanism from amazon back in the day which 1. didn’t work and looked horrible 2. led to an iconic teenage meltdown in my parent’s upstairs bathroom

   

7. everyday i step outside my door i think to myself “today is the day i see chloe sevigny running errands in a button-up athletic short combo with reebok x margiela sneakers” it hasn’t happened yet but i’ll never give up hope

   

8. should i buy a vintage red balenciaga city bag

   

9. or maybe seafoam green………
