Dear Angel Cake,

I’m in love with my best friend, what do I do?!

It truly is a brat summer since I stopped caring and instead decided to ask out my best friend on a date before he left for a 3 week Europe trip. Which he said yes to. In that time, I’ve been thinking about what I just got myself into.

1) We’re apart of the same friend group- what if we break up
2) He is so much more extroverted than me and it feels like he could be with anyone so why me?
3) I realized I am in deep love with him and have been for a while

We have said the infamous “I love you” to each other in what I thought was a friend way and we both care for each other so deeply. What if we aren’t good together but better off as friends. I’m so scared to lose him and I don’t want to break our friend group apart in the process. Also, what if he doesn’t love me? I mean, my friends have been wanting us together for years (btw apparently he’s liked me for 3 years?!) then why hasn’t he made a move. As a teenage girl, my self esteem is basically on the floor, and finding out the guy who has had a long term crush on you didn’t want to make a move doesn’t feel great. But then I remember how he just wants me to be happy, even if it’s not him I’m with. Like, how he helped me and gave me advice when I liked another guy while he still liked me. For how many romance books I read, I was completely oblivious to him ever feeling about me that way. Yet lately whenever I think of him, I hope to have a real relationship with him. I want to go on movie dates, have sweet kisses together, and little things that make you think of each other (yes I’m annoying, I know) He know’s all this. And I can’t tell my friends everything I feel about our kinda-relationship but I really need help.

I want to be with him, but what if he doesn’t want that or what if it doesn’t work out?

please tell me what to do, or what not to.

THIS IS SOOOOOO EXCITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have every right to be cautious and reserved about this, but a huge piece of good news is that he already AGREED to go on the date- the scariest part is already over! i will say it was kind of crazy of you to ask him before he left for 3 weeks because that is a perfect recipe for ruminating, nonetheless brat summer persists…
